little girl so innocent walking through the garden of red and green,
catching a butterfly in her hands to see what is in between,
a crushed version that is no longer pretty in side her palm,
she drops it on the ground not wanting it to come to any harm,
kneeling down to it as lifeless curled legs fold,
she did not know death from never being told,
stepping back she stares at it with sadness in her heart,
the poor butterfly all broken and the wings apart,
acceptance to what she has done to the beautiful bug,
remembering not long ago at a funeral near the hole dug,
as a relative she barely knows was buried in the ground,
picking up the butterfly checking it all around,
digging a small hole in the garden just below the tree,
burying it and covering then finally understanding the way it should be.
