this poem i put on poetry.com about 5 months ago, i havent really been back there, the site is freakishly slow most of the time and you have to review 2 other peoples poems to get yours seen by others. some are just complete crap with no effort put into them. some i wonder if they are just a diary entry. but i went back today and saw one of my poems got high recognition. all top ratings. just goes to show if it hits a nerve its noticed.

pressing buttons on the poker machine,
with a face of tension her husband has never seen,
he touches her on the shoulder smiling at her side,
as she continues to play the game watching the cards slide,
he notices her sweating and ignoring his smile,
growing some concern after a long while,
taking her hand to stop pressing more,
she looks at him for a moment to say they are poor,
spending all their money and this their honeymoon too,
learning something about her that he never really knew,
she keeps playing while he is in shock and turning pale,
taking her by the hand as she grips on with every nail,
pulling her away from the machine before she presses again,
he talks to her to convince this is a sickness in her brain,
eventually she gives up and looks at him to touch his skin,
another person sits at that same machine and presses one button to win.
