Shadow Spirits
clawing fingers dig into the sockets of the eyes,
pulsing blood bursts with screams and cries,
blanketing the face with dribbles mixed with blood,
hands release to drop the body into the mud,
sinking with twitching feet as Earth consumes,
a held breath exhales as the clock resumes,
sinking shadows bow of leafless gripping trees,
the echoes of sounds in the darkness with a breeze,
footsteps along the dirt cracking the dry mud ground,
walking further forwards without hearing a single sound,
turning to the marshes of glowing green moss,
without a thought to the death so recently a loss,
stopping with a vision of the eyeless corpse ahead,
as the thoughts race through shouldn't this person be dead,
rushing forth to complete this mistake,
finding the body pinned to a recently placed wooden stake,
turning with laughter then echoes hit back,
teeth yellow and brown covered in plaque,
shadows move in the distance mistaken for birds,
as one shadow rises closer with speaking words,
'Eye for an eye.' the words whisper true,
the other shadows come surrounding and passing through,
covered fingers blank out what insanity shows,
waking to the sun rising to ones own blood flows.
